Comprehensive Eye Exam

In a comprehensive exam, a number of tests are conducted to create a complete evaluation of eye health. Depending on the number and complexity of the tests required to evaluate your vision, these eye exams may take up to an hour and a half. Here are some things to expect when getting a comprehensive eye exam:

  • Visual Acuity tests that measure the sharpness of your vision

  • Cover Test to test alignment

  • Ocular Motility Testing to test eye movement

  • Refraction to determine an exact eyeglass prescription

  • Slit Lamp Exam to examine the structure of the eye

  • Contact Tonometry to test for glaucoma

  • Pupil Dilation to get a better view of the eyes internal structures

Eye exams need to be done often, as many eye conditions can begin without symptoms. If you’re wondering if it’s time to schedule an eye exam, consider the following signs:

  • Your eyes are red, dry, itchy, or you are seeing spots.

  • You are experiencing flashes of light or eye floaters.

  • You have diabetes or another health condition that affects your eyes.

  • You have a family history of diabetes or another health condition that affects the eyes.

  • You cannot remember the last time you had an eye examination

  • You need a new eyeglass or contact lens prescription.

  • You experience eye strain, headaches or blurred vision after looking at a computer screen for too long

  • You get motion sick, dizzy or have trouble following a moving target with your eyes

  • You notice any changes in your vision after an incident or head injury

  • You have experienced an eye injury

Don't wait until you experience any of these symptoms to schedule an eye exam. You should have a yearly eye exam if not more to ensure any new or worsening eye conditions may be diagnosed and treated accordingly. If you are over the age of 50 it is recommended that you get more frequent eye exams. The health of your eyes are important to you, and to us. Call to schedule an eye exam and get on the right track to taking better care of your eye health.
